Hi Iain

Yes, succinctly put and so true. The Braille library catalogue isn't great
and terribly slow at times. The talking book component is ok, and the shop
just as you describe it. And the main RNIB website is a bit cluttered.

As for the telephone helpline, it definitely depends on who you get. More
often than not, they have to contact me when someone from the Braille
library is available, or I ring them back in the hope I get someone who can
assist me. I must admit I was furious when I discovered my list had got
lost, despite their profuse apologies. Because the library website is so
slow, it took me a long time to create a new list of books, and I had to do
the whole thing again when I discovered RNIB couldn't find my Email, sent
online. Oh well, done now, and a whole raft of books keeping the postman
Seamus busy!
Kind Regards,

Jackie Cairns

The main library catalogue is truly awful and unintuitive. NLB promised us
"soon" many years ago that we would be able to search and manage our online
bookshelves. The Talking Book catalogue, though by no means perfect, is
easier to use and a bit more intuitive once you have grasped the way it
works. as to the shop, I find the main categories confuse rather than help.
I think it would be better to have a full category list as amazon does as a
drop down list. I also don't like the fact that you have to navigate past
the special offers before you get to any category links. On the question of
people not knowing how to use the Braille catalogue, it has to be said that
the service you get on the helpline seems to depend too much on who you get
on any particular call.

Hi Chris

The same applies to the Braille catalogue too, and not before time. Imagine
ordering a whole pile of books, as I did a few weeks ago, and not being able
to see your list? Even more infuriating was that when I did mine online and
sent the list to the library, they lost it, so I had spent an entire morning
searching the catalogue for nothing. Learning from that, I now keep a Word
document of my list which I add to each time I find a book I want. RNIB
say the new system will be implemented in October, and about time too! I
reckon they've had more systems installed over the years thanDr. Who's
tardis! I find it terribly frustrating to ring the helpline, only to be told
that not everyone there knows how to use the Braille catalogue, so I
invariably have to ring back. What a ridiculous situation that is.

Sorry, but RNIB's library service isn't my favourite department at the
moment. Dare I say incompetence?

Kind Regards,

Jackie Cairns

Not sure if this has already been mentioned. But RNIB sent a mail out to
all it's members letting them know that the talking book website is going to
be redesigned and that we will have the ability to see what books are on our
mailing list and be able to edit them.
