Hello Keith,

Rather than try to find an older PC with a serial port why not try a cable that 
will convert from USB to serial?
I have used such a cable in the past with success to make an Apollo speech 
synth work.

Take a look at

There are lots of them about and plenty of advice on which ones work best.
