Hi Graham.

The only stand-alone scanner of this nature I've tried is the Galileo
Reading machine from Robotron Sensory Tools. You can read all about it =
at:
http://www.sensorytools.com/
 and activating the appropriate link.

Generally like yourself however I tend to go for Software-based scanning
packages for greater ease of flexibility, and I guess the cost has to be
taken into consideration too. I Reckon these stand-alone devices would
almost certainly run into 4 figures, whereas you could purchase a =
scanner
and a program such as K1000 for under a grand. HTH.

Cheers,

Mark

Subject: [access-uk] standalone scanners

Hi all.
I was recently asked by someone about which stand alone scanner is the =
best
and have to say I don't know. One of the most well known is the Scannar
from Humanware and there is also My Reader, I believe it is called, sold =
I
think by Visionaid. Generally I suggest Kurzweil or OpenBook if people =
want
a really decent scanning solution though programs like FineReader also =
quite
well on a PC.

If I want to go for a stand alone scanner, which is currently the best? =
are
there any reviews anywhere? has anyone tried any stand alone models
recently?

Regards

Graham
