Steve published a few AIAA papers on the pump.

needs gravity/acceleration.
gas driven piston/membrane-less fluid pumps aren't really new.
you also find stirling machines using the same basic idea.
The reverse is fluid driven gas pumps.
( with one special app in the domain of tide energy utilisation.)
