I live in the desert on a dirt road outside of town. That is fine since
whenever I feel the need, the civilization is 1/2 hour away. Too many SciFi
movies show going to Mars is a 1/2 hour trip and at the end of the movie you
usually survive getting back to earth. Or, if a trip back to earth is out of
the question, try 'terraforming' since that also works in the movies. Oh wait,
the Martian dispelled that idea. The reality is it may very well be a one way
trip and not many people live 'isolated in the desert' for a reason, just look
at the crime rate increasing after a few months of lock downs because of this
virus. Perhaps the first candidates to go to Mars should be people that already
live in isolated areas of the Earth.
The moon is another story. A two or three day trip and you are back home. Far
easier to get things to logistically. Try it our there, work out the problems
and then go for Mars.

Subject: [AR] Are 1,000 Starships adequate to live on Mars?
In today's news I note that our brilliant colleague Mr Musk reaffirmed
the real mission of Space Exploration Technologies is to settle on
Mars with a self-sustaining city of Earthlings.
Kewl, yes?
Does anyone imagine or think that 1,000 SpaceX rockets will be
adequate to that task? If not, why not?

PS: and of course, land the spent boosters on the launch pad, at the
launcher tower, catching them on the way back.
