Gas bottles are down to 5 year intervals, a bit too conservative but dam

I just looked up the DOT hydro testing requirements for 3AL cylinders (49
CFR 180.209). The requalification period is 5, 10 or 12 years. Can’t find
any exemption.

Good catch. Mine does indeed have 3AL on it. Didn’t know that was a thing
Thanks!

You mention “small nitrous tank”. If it’s aluminum, inspect the letters on
the dome. If it has a “3-AL” stamp on it, it’s exempt from hydrostatic
testing in the US and Canada if the rules haven’t changed since I checked
last.

Here’s something to do with rockets…
I used to fly a lot of hybrid rockets but haven’t done much for a few
years so I have a bunch of hybrid motors and ground support equipment
available for cheap to declutter my basement. Would anyone here be
interested? Here’s what I have:
Pratt Hobbies ground support equipment for 50 ft remote fill/fire/launch
(may need new rechargeable battery)
Small nitrous tank (partially filled but needs hydro testing for refill)
A variety of nylon tubing and compression fittings
Rattworks H70, I80 and K240 cases (some reloads)
West Coast Hybrid cases and reloads
Experimental hybrid floating piston UC motor based on Ellis Mountain
Motorworks cases with snap-ring closures flown with PVC, rubber and wax fuel
Several other Ellis Mountain cases and solid propellant reloads (not
NAR/TRA certified any more)
If anyone is interested, let me know and I can provide a more complete
inventory/information/pictures. Make me an offer!
I’m located in Massachusetts NW of Boston if anyone is local.
Thanks for looking,
Robert
