Wernher von Braun and Willi Ley : everything you want for going to space (
Book and colliers series ) Throw in Clarke's GEO radio repeater stations.

I have several fifties books of those two but not the one you mention. Clarke's
global sat GSM network unfortunately is very expensive still compared to the
antenna tower types, a tech which took Clarke by surprise I take it.

Kennedy repurposed space for continuing the global pissing contest in a
defanged way. Brilliant.
... and you could vie for one party or the other without endangering the globes
integrity.
Only issue after the game was done the moment to further progress was gone.

Maybe JFK should have stressed more at the start that the Moon job was part of
a long term effort and not some contest with the USSR. Question is if people 'd
have accepted such mindset. In order people (democracy has its failure modes))
were kept convinced of the need to allow further space spending in the future.
Few if any know if JFKs early demise hindered to make that happen. I'm not
convinced the expensive Vietnam debacle killed US post Apollo space ambitions.
People got fed up with the media on space.

With ( and after ) Reagan the fans of "Global Atomic War" were playing fast
and furious again.
They are now even more entrenched than after Bay of Pigs and Kennedy fending of
the Bomb Lovers.

I never disliked Reagan.
