in my experience) and so I am thinking about this in terms of metal working
rather than woodworking.
It strikes me that may be a mistake and I’d like some help on seeing how
this might be done short of special fixturing and a special tool.

That’s what I was thinking. It’s Dremel, I’d wager. I remember Demerol
from the drug-crazed 70s. A powerful opiate to be avoided at all costs, if
you were wise.
