When distances are short, the errors are minimal; you don't need to account
for Coriolis force when shooting a rifle at a target.
Nowadays you do!

High accuracy, long range rifles have gotten to the consumer price point. On
the upside, so have ballistic apps on smartphones.
A regular guy with a nice rifle and a cheap phone is now doing what a gun
director, a turret, and a crew of dozens did just a few decades ago.
Pretty cool.

You can do any calculation in any frame of reference; it's just harder
in some than in others. In particular, if you choose an earth frame
of reference you have to incorporate things like centrifugal force and
Coriolis force to get a correct result. That can be done, but it's
easier to convert to an inertial frame of reference and use that
instead. "Inertial" means the frame of reference isn't accelerating
like normal Earth coordinates are. (They're rotating, which involves
acceleration.)

account for Coriolis force when shooting a rifle at a target. Getting
to orbit is another matter.
