Members of the Buchanan County Bird Club birded the Breaks
Interstate Park on Saturday, October 8. The morning started out cool,
but the temperature soon reached a comfortable level for an enjoyable day.
We logged 45 species for the day. We were glad to have our good friend
and co-founder of the BCBC, Ed Talbott III, back birding with us. The
highlights of the day were several hawk species, Yellow-billed Cuckoos,
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, both White-eyed and Blue-headed Vireos, the first of
the season Winter Wrens, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Veery, Swainson's and Wood
Thrush, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Scarlet Tanagers, and White-throated
Sparrows.
After birding the morning we found some picnic tables
surrounded by colorful fall foliage and had a leisurely picnic
lunch.
The day's complete birding list is below, and more
photos of the day can be found at http://www.pbase.com/mayhorn/breaks_park_10_2011
