Tom Hunter & I birded the Cove area of Tazewell County today to scout for the June 1 RCBC field trip there. The birds were very cooperative and we found 64 species plus a Lawrence's backcross, an offspring of Blue-winged Warbler and Golden-winged Warbler hybrid which has bred with either a Golden-winged or Blue-winged Warbler. This bird responded to a Blue-winged song. Orioles were plentiful with numerous Baltimores and Orchards around. We had a male/female Scarlet Tanager pair, lots of Indigo Buntings, and Bobolinks in several different fields. We also found Solitary, Western, and Semipalmated Sandpipers. Some surprising no shows were Red-tailed Hawks and Killdeer. The complete list in PDF format is attached. Jerry
