Hi Everyone, As Mike Sanders already reported Lynda and I lead the bird walk in the Breaks Park yesterday. I guess the bad weather kept most people in, but Mike braved the weather and the long drive from Bristol to join us. We had a very enjoyable day with Mike, who is a good birder. Thanks to his sharp eyes he got the Swainson's Warbler as a life bird. He spotted the bird sitting in one spot, singing among the Rhododendron. My total for the day was 30 species. I was surprised that we didn't find more warbler species than we did. At any rate, the rain held off till mid-day and it was a good day to be out birding. Following is the day's list. Roger Mayhorn Compton Mt Acadian Flycatcher 1 American Crow 2 American Robin 5 (1 carrying nesting material) Black-and-white Warbler 3 Black-throated Green Warbler 2 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 2 Blue Jay 2 Brown Thrasher 1 Carolina Chickadee 1 Carolina Wren 1 Chipping Sparrow 2 Eastern Phoebe 2 Eastern Towhee 2 Hooded Warbler 5 Northern Cardinal 3 (2m, 1f) Northern Flicker 1 Northern Parula 1 Ovenbird 4 Pileated Woodpecker 1 Pine Warbler 1 (Pinnacle Rock) Red-eyed Vireo 2 Red-winged Blackbird 3 (1m, 2f) Ruby-crowned Kinglet Scarlet Tanager 1 Swainson's Warbler 1 (Cold Spring Trail) Tufted Titmouse 2 White-breasted Nuthatch 2 Wood Thrush 4 Yellow-throated Vireo 2 Yellow-throated Warbler 1
