On a recent family trip to the Outer Banks I was able to get these poor-quality pics of a shorebird. This bird was feeding with some killdeer and "peeps" in a large grassy area near the Bodie Island Lighthouse. Our mystery bird was nearly the size of a Killdeer & you can see in one of the pics a comparison with a Least Sandpiper I believe. If this bird proves to be what I think it is, it is away from the normal migration route . I always struggle with shorebird ID's so it will be interesting to see what others think.
