A pair of Orchard Orioles have nested in the walnut tree in our backyard
this spring. (Attached photos) Each time we went into the area the male
would chatter and scold us. Yesterday morning I found a newly fledged young
one in the grass under the tree. The parents were going crazy. Then I saw a
large yellow cat sneaking away. After giving the cat a sufficient scare to
send it running away at top speed I kept watch and saw the young one flutter
and fly to a nearby bush. I sneaked a photo of it and quickly left the area.
Later in the day the bird was gone from the bush and the parents could be
heard near a different area of the yard. Hopefully, the young one had been
able to fly up to a tree where it was safe.
