Really nice pics! Great that you found a family of grouse.

Nice photos. One of my favorite birding areas when I’m back in your area!

I took advantage of the beautiful weather this morning and headed to
Southern Gap. Sad to report that I couldn’t find any Dickcissels. I’d
hoped that they would return and nest again. Grasshopper and Field Sparrows
were well represented as were Prairie Warblers. I’m certain that the
breeding population of Prairie Warblers are increasing as I heard them
singing in different areas than in the past. Later, I drove to Keen Mtn.
and found Cerulean Warblers in good numbers on Aus Keen Rd. I heard no less
than six singing males along the three mile road. The Ruffed Grouse posed
for a portrait also. I wondered why she was lingering and then saw several
tiny nestlings scamper out of the tall weeds. She then, with brood in tow,
was more than happy to leave. It was a great morning to be outdoors and it
served well to recharge my batteries!
