As you can see from the following photo, several Buchanan Bird Club members were in attendance for the Big Sit here on Compton Mt today. The birders sat in a 17 foot circle and watched and listened for birds. The "group" enjoyed hot chocolate and a warm lunch of Santa Fe soup. In spite of the low temperature of 41 degrees early in the morning it turned into a warm, beautiful fall day. Thirty-one species were sighted or heard from the circle with a few surprises. The sightings of a SCARLET TANAGER, a WOOD THRUSH and a SWAINSON'S THRUSH set new late dates for the county for all three species. WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS are still passing through with six having been seen today. Though not a late date a lone TENNESSEE WARBLER was observed at the yard stream, as well as a RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET. The complete list for the day is at the bottom of this message.
