A huge thank-you to Roger and Lynda for yet another wonderful Warbler Day
on Compton Mountain. I move we petition Congress to make it a national
holiday. Roger and Lynda are extremely generous to open up their place to a
bunch of often excitable, always hungry birders, and we're grateful.

Counting Lynda and me 27 birders were present for our annual Warbler Day
event today. The morning started off before dawn when I went outside and
heard a Barred Owl calling, then a few minutes later I heard a Great Horned
Owl hooting from beyond our neighbor’s house across the valley. The Great
Horned was a new species for Warbler Day. I was very lucky to hear that
one; we don’t often hear or see them in our immediate area.
We had a total of 65 species for the day including 13 warbler species, 5
of which were Yellow-throated Warblers like this one. We had a lot of fun
with the birders and had great birds coming into the yard. During the first
few hours it seemed there were birds everywhere.
We counted 4 Hawk species, 2 owls, 5 woodpecker species and 5 vireo
species. The day’s complete list is below.
