Hi All, On Saturday, January 5th, Don Carrier, his son Christian and I, birded the Whitewood area of southeastern Buchanan County and across the county line for a bit of the northern section of Tazewell Co. This area was targeted because of a proposed new Audubon Christmas Bird Count circle for the eastern section of Buchanan County by members of the Buchanan County Bird Club. We plan to bird more of the area that would lie within the 15 mile diameter circle in order to get an idea of the bird species that could be expected on future Christmas Bird Counts for that area. Some of the area extending into Tazewell County did not prove to be as productive as was hoped, but there is still more area to be explored and may still warrant the extension of the circle into Tazewell County. The exact center for the circle has not yet been determined. These birding forays will help establish where the center should be. Once the exact location of the map circle is determined I will post a copy of it to the listserve. Later today, 1/6/08 David Raines and I plan to scout and bird an area that would lie in the northeast section of the circle, which would take in a small section of McDowell County, WV. Following is the list of species we found on Saturday.
