Don's bear sounds like a possibility but foxes and coyotes would do the same
digging.  So I would guess one of these three, but if you are still feeding
birds Jerry I would think the bear would try for some of the bird seed in
addition to the yellow jackets.  So with that in mind and you are feeding
birds I would limit my choices to the coyote and fox.

While mowing my "holler" this afternoon, I found the hole pictured below.
It was an underground yellow jacket nest.  You may be able to see a little
of the nest in the picture, and there were several yellow jackets around the
hole.  Clearly some critter done the nest up in order to devour the larva.
Any  ideas?  Bob_bebirding_Riggs??
