I would work with him to discover what he will need to be able to do. I am
thinking that he will need to have a very good working relationship with
Excel and a screen reader for starters. I think it would be good for him to
begin to "Play with this" ahead of his actual need.
Have you directed him to AFB and the Career and Technology Information Bank?
I have been registered there for many years and have received inquiries from
physical therapy students and working therapists experiencing vision loss.
There might be budget annylists listed there or people in related fields.

A former client of mine is working as a Budget Analyst for the state
government and is wanting to correspond with other budget analysts of
similarity so he can be prepared in how to continue doing his job as his
vision gets worse in the future.
