Subject: A community radio station in DC was robbed, but the community is
fighting back -- And a radical upset in Birmingham
Washington’s only progressive, independent community radio station had its
doors smashed in last night, with burglars making off with a ton of equipment.
I’ve appeared a bunch of times on the station, called We Act Radio, and have a
soft spot for them.
One of its cofounders is a friend who launched the little publishing house,
Strong Arm Press, with me, and they do the kind of work that nobody else is
doing. So I wanted to share their GoFundMe with you. I don’t do fundraising

for money, but I thought this was worth sharing.

Back to news: The Trump administration’s Department of Labor today announced ;
that it is honoring Ronald Reagan as a hero of American labor. Next maybe PETA
will honor that Coney Island hotdog-eating champion at its next gala with an
animal rights award. Story here.
Radical upset: A pretty radical candidate for Birmingham mayor, Chokwe Antar
Lumumba Jr. went into election day this week trailing by some 30 points in
polls and ended up finishing first, forcing a runoff. If he wins, that means
Jackson, Mississippi and Birmingham, Alabama would both be run by strong
populist Democrats who bucked the establishment. Atlanta could come next.
