Dear members and friends,

Please see an upcoming event Melbourne and Geelong Public Meetings - Access to
Justice below.

A great opportunity to advocate for the deafblind community.

Kind Regards,

Trudy Ryall

Information Officer

Able Australia

Disability Discrimination Commissioner, Graeme Innes will be holding public
meetings around Australia to hear directly from people with disability who need
communication supports, or who have complex and multiple support needs, about
their experiences with the criminal justice system.

The Commission is concerned that people with disability who need communication
supports or who have complex and multiple support needs are not having their
rights protected and are not being treated equally in police stations, courts,
prisons and juvenile justice centres across Australia. This is happening to
people with disability who are victims of crime, accused of crimes, witnesses,
defendants and offenders.

We will be holding public meetings in Melbourne and Geelong.

contact Sarah at sarah.boyd@xxxxxxxxxx or on 03 9286 7800.

In our public meetings, we want to learn more about what is and isn't working
well. This will help us to look at what needs to be done to make sure people
with disability have their rights protected and have access to justice in the
criminal justice system.

If you would like to learn more about this project, we have attached the Issues
Paper.

Cheers,

Si Qi Wen
