I have been asked to pass on the information I have collected regarding
Ofek/Oz and six year schools -- but I haven't found out that much.
I have discovered that four year high schools only join Oz and don't need
to join Ofek Hadash. Teachers in six year schools that are already in
both pay reforms, get paid according to the ratio they teach in middle
school vs. high school according to the respective programs. I have been
told that this results in chaos -- with some teachers getting paid for
meetings and others not, and that calculating number of 'one on one' hours
a teacher is obligated to teach is also not easy to oversee.
It seems to me that six year schools need to organize together and ask for
an alternative agreement or the permission to just join Oz -- in teh
process we can threaten to disown our 7th and 8th grades if that an
agreement isn't reached -- although becoming a four year school instead of
six will cause oits own set of issues. In any case, so far I don't see any
cooperation taking place between six year schools -- perhaps becasue the
principals don't have anything to gain from it. But how can the Minsitry
of Education want to create a teachers room where teachers are fighting
over NOT being in the middle school because teaching in high school may
be worth more money ... at least your meetings will be paid for .and your
gmul histalmut not touched ...
