Subject: re: module f (literature) winter 2013

When I was a HS student, back in the 80's pupils could study 6 points
bagrut (out of choice and love for literature) and I remember that a
mentor was assigned to me starting 11th grade, and through an ongoing
process of 2 years I actually wrote my AVODAT GMAR, which I'll
remember for the rest of my life since it was my subject, my research
and of course it was checked and graded by an external examiner who
was part of the MOE, but this as I recall was a true original research
based task (nobody put words or phrases or HOTS into me, neither gave
me answer templates or MIKUDIM) I actually thought (HIGHLY) and nobody
even used the word HOTS. Today we mention HOTS, but as I see around
me, not to really think and do a deep intrinsic process- and this is
what we’re missing today, cause literature lends itself to it, I get
to think more and more that it's something being done wrong in the
curriculum.
Or as said in
*(BTW my theme was poetry and in specific- William Blake's poetry
during the industrial revolution). I analyzed poems through a
historical overview- is this using HOTS or not?
I must say that my teacher back then at HAR VAGUY Kibbutzim school was
dear Evelin Shatil, whom I’ll never forget!

And as have been expressed in the words of Billy Collins
(I don't want to be the one beating with the hose)

I ask them to take a poem
and hold it up to the light
like a color slide

or press an ear against its hive.

I say drop a mouse into a poem
and watch him probe his way out,

or walk inside the poem's room
and feel the walls for a light switch.

I want them to waterski
across the surface of a poem
waving at the author's name on the shore.

But all they want to do
is tie the poem to a chair with rope
and torture a confession out of it.

They begin beating it with a hose
to find out what it really means.
