Dear
Colleagues,

I was in Canada when I
received the message that the Ministry has decided to distribute CDs for future
Bagrut exams. In spite of heavy jet lag, I wanted to address the decision. Of
course, I appreciate the change from cassettes given that
walkmans belong to the last generation, however CDs do not offer us the
solution that we need.

The
MoE needs a policy that reflects the fact that technology has been advancing and
continues to advance. Therefore, I'm writing to the list to encourage a group
brainstorm devising a viable solution for the huge number of students entitled
to audio accommodations for their exams.

Here
are a few ideas from a teacher's point of view:

1.
We get CDs and allow our
students to do their exams on computers

2.
We get discs which include
multiple formats for MP3, MP4 and iPOD players, and from which we can download
files to students' players.

3.
Alternatively, we receive a
website (password protected) from which teachers can download sound files
(again MP3, MP4 and iPOD) immediately before the exam (an hour or so should be
sufficient if there's a tech person who's on the job)

4.
Find inexpensive disposable
devices (MP3 type) for direct distribution to students

Note that the website option would save the
expense of cassettes, the time of creating cassettes and would offer students
the chance to work with their own familiar device.

Please respond to the above, or add your own
ideas.

Eventually, any idea that seems most efficient to
us, would have to be presented to the Ministry by the Principals of our
schools.
The sooner we act on this, the sooner we can step into the current
century.
