Dear Judi, When my husband z"l died, what helped me get through the grief at least a little was setting up a fund in his memory. I am not suggesting that your class do anything so monumental, however if you approached maybe JNF or the firefighters, I am sure they are probably setting up some kind of fund in Elad's memory and they would be happy to have your students cooperate. Your students could compose a letter in English about the fund they wish to promote, write some memories of Elad and send it to some of the Jewish day schools and Jewish youth organizations in The United States, England, and other English speaking countries. As a child I grew up buying trees from JNF in memory of people I loved, so the idea is not that foreign to those abroad. I find that being active helps the grieving process too and might help those students who are not comfortable about sharing their thoughts and feelings.
