Greetings, all!

It is possible that in our mad rush to find the silver
bullet for teaching the Modules, we missed the
articles in Ma?ariv about the decision to cut gmulim
for teachers with children? (Although Ma?ariv is not
the greatest source of information in the world, there
were enough cited sources to assume some of it was
true.)

The first article, on Nov 2, stated that Ministry of
Education officials explained that this cut in salary
would encourage working mothers to spend more time
with their children. (How considerate of the MOE!)

The second article, on Nov 4, stated that Ronit
Tirosh, didn?t know about this policy change (and in
extension, did not know about explanations given by
her own people in the MOE), blamed the Ministry of
Finance, and announced that she would fight this new
policy (i.e., a policy being executed by her own
subordinates).

The logic behind all of this is mind-boggling, but
yet, so typical of our beloved leaders.

If the teacher/mothers had MORE money, they could stay
home with their kids. By cutting their already meager
salaries, they will have to look for additional work
to bring home the same amount of money ? thus staying
away from the home even more hours.

How is it that the Director General of the MOE doesn?t
know that her underlings are spouting such outrageous
garbage?

How stupid do they think we are, telling us such
ridiculous lies instead of telling us the real reason:
let?s save money by screwing over wimpy teachers?
(Hmmm? actually, we do give them good reason to think
they could get away with this, seeing the other
outrageous garbage we?ve swallowed without even asking
for ketchup to cover the bad taste.)

I'm sure that Barry Silverberg could build a brilliant
satire out of all this and be declared politically
correct. Please excuse my more direct prose.

Jimmy
