to me, "Why do I have to learn to write a formal letter?  I'll get my
secretary to do it."
However, that's not my point.  My point is that a teacher who assigns
homework that the kids probably can't do themselves, and that their parents
will end up doing, is not teaching them anything.  In the case in point,
according to the teacher, the children were supposed to get the feel of what
it was like to go out and build yourself a hut, rather than buying an
apartment.  This was supposed to enhance their cultural understanding.  I
hope it enhanced their mothers' cultural understanding, at least.
