 Subject: One test per semester?
 From: "Rachelle Borenstein" <rnab1@xxxxxxxxxxxx>

Continuing Batya's train of thought, what do you do when you're thrown
another curveball? Our school is trying to create a system with less
pressure and wants to have one test per semester in every subject, and
if need be, a few quizzes. Until now, the English staff have had three
tests per semester, dictations, book reports, participation/homework,
etc. as part of our grading system to alleviate the pressure from
"tests
only". We've agreed that we could cut down to two tests per semester
+ smaller tasks but certain members of the administration feel that
English is no different than other subjects and should only have one
test in 5 months. Question: Do you think it's realistic in high school
to have only 1 test per semester? I'm looking for your opinions so I
can
go back to the administration with the feedback of other English
 teachers.
 Thanks,
 Rachelle
