At the time I had no idea what grades my students had received so I didn't respond. I had thought the test a very good one and they had all felt that they had managed it well. HOWEVER, today I was at school and I saw some of my students grades and I was shocked. The grades were all below 80. In the past I have had almost no grades below 80 in this class. I am not considered an easy grader and was twice admonished by the ministry (in the old days when we used to grade the tests ourselves) that my grading was a bit harsh. Last year the grades I gave them were all within a few points of their test grade and the average was in the upper 80's. This year's class was not significantly better or worse than any of the past classes I have taught I would like someone who is in charge of the translation grading to respond to this sudden downturn in grades. I would also be interested in hearing from other teachers of translation regarding the grades their students received this year.
