----- Original Message ----- Subject: Dovrei Anglit in question for Sharon area next year I am a parent of two children who participate in Dovrei Anglit classes in Kokhav Yair-Tzur Yigal, currently in the 6th and 8th grades. It has come to the attention of the parents in our schools that Dovrei Anglit may be cancelled throughout the Sharon area as of the upcoming 2007/2008 school year following a parent complaint about having to pay for English during regular school hours. Apparently, paying for talan in English is illegal because it is not offered to all students, thus the Ministry of Education is going to disallow it, beginning next year. This is being done, however, very quietly, without notifying either the Dovrei Anglit students/parents or, even worse, the teachers. We, as parents, are obviously very distressed at this news and will do everything we can to ensure that our children continue to receive the advanced English they need and deserve. The fact that we have been willing to pay for it for many years shows our committment to this program. We feel that it is important for parents to know about this plan brewing in Misrad Hahinuch and even more so that teachers are aware or it, as they are liable to find themselves suddenly unemployed, through no fault of their own. At this point, I do not know any more than I have mentioned above. However, I do think it is important that this information be posted so that people will be informed now, when there is still time to act, rather than be surprised on September 1st, as it appears that Misrad Hahinuch is planning. A solution must be found - we must make sure that our children's education is not disrupted and harmed and that our teachers' jobs are not endangered. ----------------------------------------------- ** Etni homepage - www.etni.org ** ** for help - ask@xxxxxxxx ** ** to post to this list - etni@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** -----------------------------------------------
