His death, coming after a long period of ill-health, was a tragic loss for his family and friends: particularly Marna, of course, their son Benny and their devoted caregiver and friend Victor. I know that all members of ETAI join me in sending their condolences to Marna and the family. Many of us visited them during the ‘shiva’ and continue to be supportive as she returns to the tasks awaiting her at the ETAI office. Within ETAI, two more mini-conferences took place in January: one in the centre of the country, at Kiryat Ono, organized by Sarit Burd and Hagit Atlas, and the second in the north, at Ohalo College, Katzrin, organized by Yehudit Od-Cohen. Both were collaborative efforts: initiated and organized by ETAI, but backed up by other influential institutions and people: in the first case, the local inspectors and in the second Ohalo College itself. (See the programs on the ETAI website, and have a look at the downloadable handouts for some idea of what the sessions were about!) As I said to one of the inspectors at the Kiryat Ono event: inspectors plus ETAI equal an unbeatable combination when it comes to organizing teachers’ study days! And the same goes for ETAI plus teacher-education institutions. Between 100 and 150 participants attended these two mini-conferences in all. I invite all members – and non-members too – to attend and enjoy the upcoming mini-conferences this month. Programs are already displayed on the ETAI website. February 15 at Talpiot College, Holon (conveners Nava Horovitz and Laura Shashua) February 17 at Beit Yerach School (conveners Aviva Shapiro and Debbie Gabai) February 23 in Rehovot (conveners Amanda Caplan and Michele Ben) The next ‘maxi’ conference event is the Haifa Conference in Yagur on March 25th. I’ll write more details in the next Newsletter. The deadline for submitting proposals is February 18th, so if you are thinking of sending one in – please do so soon! And meanwhile preparations continue 'full steam ahead' for the summer International Conference: ETAI 2010. The deadline for proposals is past: we have received over a hundred proposals! A number of them are from outside Israel. Some of these are, of course, invited speakers; but most were submitted in response to our call for papers and are now being sorted and assessed by the selection committee. On a personal note: I have just returned from a weekend at a conference in Switzerland (the association is, predictably, called ETAS). It was one of the best-organized conferences it has been my pleasure to attend, and an enjoyable event, in spite of the cold, snowy and sometimes stormy weather! Best wishes, Penny Ur Chair, ETAI ----------------------------------------------- ** Etni homepage - http://www.etni.org or - http://www.etni.org.il ** ** for help - ask@xxxxxxxx ** ** to post to this list - etni@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** -----------------------------------------------
