Yes, you're right, and we do that, too.   The pupils must show us the book 
beforehand and bring it on the day of the exam; otherwise we deduct points. 
This minimizes the chance of situations like I had a few years ago:   A 
pupil of mine was supposed to do her book report but forgot her book.    I 
saw her turning around and asking the girl behind her, how do you say "קוף" 
and "ערום" in English?  I wound up getting a book report on a book called 
"The Nude Monkey."      Yep, it was her variation on the book "The Naked 
Ape" by Desmond Morris if you've heard of it.     I'm sure every English 
teacher has similar stories.

However, with all of our conditions and precautions, I'm not convinced we've 
"fixed all the leaks."       I don't mind correcting book tasks when they've 
read the books, but when I'm pretty sure they haven't, I feel foolish.    I 
could give them a composition instead; it would be a lot easier to grade.
