I just caught up with the discussion about cheating and had to respond to 
Adi's post.

If we accept that all children are potential liars and cheats and the onus 
is on the teacher to catch them, then by the same yardstick we should accept 
that all adults are dishonest, will try to get away with breaking the law, 
ripping people off, stealing etc, and the fault is that with the police for 
not catching them.

Not much hope for our society....


PS: The vast majority of children I have taught did not cheat.
The minority that tried/did mostly had other unaddressed problems.

I try to "convince" my (mostly special needs) students that cheating in 
tests isn't necessary because their grade is made up of many different kinds 
of evaluation. Worth thinking about in higher levels of education.
