----- Original Message ----- From: byk - byk@xxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: literature I'd like to endorse one point that Esther made about the book Grains of Sand. She said that her weak 4 pointers found it easy to read. Please, teachers, when you choose literature for the literature program, try to help me earn less. Most of the literature that 4 and even 5 pointers have to deal with is beyond them. I earn a pretty penny going over such old favourites as Mr. Know-All, and Evelyne with pupils who simply can't follow the story. I fail to see what appreciation of English literature and culture they get out of doing this. How do they do on Bagrut? Quite well, thank you. Does this reflect on what the pupils are learning today? I think so. In the very distant past, 5 point pupils could deal with these stories. This definitely does not reflect on the teachers, who are expected to squeeze so many things into 4 lessons a week (or actually less, because many lessons are lost due to one thing or another). So be careful of the literature you choose.
