----- Original Message ----- From: "Kathi Pearlmutter" <kathip@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: question re 4-5 point group I just want to clarify a few points that could be misconstrued from my letter. 1. Most of our pupils do continue English in 12th grade. 2. The only 4 point kids who finish early are kids who we honestly thought would succeed in 5 points when they were divided up in 10th grade. Most of our 4 point kids are in a 3-4 group that does A in grade 10, BC in grade 11, and DE in grade 12. The few that fell from the top group are encouraged to join the 3-4 group in grade 12 to improve their scores in C,D, and E - and most take advantage of this option. 3. The 3 point kids who finish English in grade 11 are in the Ometz and Mabar programs. Grade 12 is spent learning intensively for other exams. We open small groups especially for those who want to go on to 4 points from these classes, because they have other subjects during our English hours. I ask you all not to be judgemental. We are doing our best to keep these kids in 12 years of school and to graduate high school. Unfortunately, that is not a given. Our program may not be ideal, but it works at our school.
