I certainly don't object to getting paid more! I DO object to lies being used to plead the case. Any teacher who takes a course and already has all of the 20 gmulim - whether in civics, history or English, doesn't benefit from the gmul given for the course, so I don't think that is relevant. To say that teachers are being forced to take the course this summer with no compensation is simply not true. I happen to know that there is a long waiting list of teachers who wanted to take the course in the summer, and were closed out of the course because of the many teachers who signed up first. As for marking the logs, yes - we are paid as bagrut markers at the present rate of 126 NIS per what they think you can do in an hour - in this case 5 logs. (For an F exam, it's 6 exam papers). If you mark tasks as you go and all you have to do at the end is mark the last task and make sure all of the assignments are in the log, this number per hour is definitely fair. I've always thought there should be gmul "hachana l'bagrut" for the projects and oral bagrut- especially since it is a separate bagrut exam, complete with magen grade! But, as I understand, Irgun Hamorim signed an agreement with the ministry about the projects when they were started. There was no attempt at negotiation for better terms before sanctions were announced. I don't think that is the way to get want is due us. This happened in Civics, History (although I know that the teachers in our school didn't get the hour they were supposed to have gotten) and Language (Lashon). This is in addition to the gmul pay one gets for taking the course, which many of us DON'T get because we have passed the maximum allowed for gmulim. Do teachers get paid at the rate of Bagrut testers for checking the Lit Log like the Civics teachers get paid for checking their new project requirement? Why do the Civics teachers get paid for checking the project (and the grade is separate - a percent of the Bagrut grade, not in the Magen so it doesn't wreak havoc with the school grade. With us the formative assessment is mixed with the high stakes and makes a mess) and in English this is not the case? And it isn't part of the Bagrut grade, just the school grade. The issue has nothing to do with whether or not the Lit program is good or bad, or whether or not projects are good or bad. (I think that most people who have done them and tried them basically agree that they are for the good. In my opinion, any teaching based on formative assessment and process promotes learning better than teaching to the test.) The issue here is getting paid fairly for work done, like in the other school subjects.
