---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Chani Diament <chanidiam@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: 3rd grade native speaker non-reader Hi, My daughter is entering third grade next week and I've just been informed there is no budget for a separate class for native speakers. (There are around 7-8 girls who are medabrot in her class.) She will have to sit in the classroom with 30 other girls, the majority of whom are Hebrew speakers with zero background in English while they learn basic ABCs from Click 1 (Eric Cohen). The English teacher said that if my daughter knew how to read, she could purchase a separate book and work on her own in the classroom. (She was unable to recommend a particular book.) The problem is that she falls more into the category of medabrot rather than dovrot. Her speaking skills and vocabulary are native-level, but although she recognizes some words globally, she is really not reading yet. I would appreciate any recommendations, advice and input. Thanks and we should all have a successful year, Chani ************************************** ** Join ETNI on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/31737970668/ ** ETNI Blog and Poll http://ask-etni.blogspot.co.il/ ** Etni homepage - http://www.etni.org ** post to ETNI List - etni@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** help - ask@xxxxxxxx ***************************************
