I was honored to join them on stage and in the classroom for this special event which, in the spirit of Daniel Pearl, focused on tolerance and respect for the "other" through music, the universal language. The pupils were prepared for the event in advance; they learned about Daniel Pearl and also studied the lyrics of songs in the program which gave them the opportunity to be active participants. They sang, listened and some asked questions. Most were very enthusiastic and I'm sure richer now for the experience. Daniel Pearl was an American journalist murdered in Afghanistan. Daniel believed in the power of music to bring people together despite their differences. Todd Mack, FODfest manager, played in a band with Daniel and is behind this project. For more information about FODfest and tour details see http://www.fodfest.org/ Let me invite my fellow southerners to tomorrow night's performances in Beersheva at the Arab-Jewish community center run by the Negev Forum for Coexistence and Civil Equality Tues., Oct 12, 8 PM, "Multaka-Mifgash", Shlomo Hamelech 7, Beersheva (Shchunat Dalet) - Free (We're in the shelter with the blue door! across from the grocery store.)
