I DO recall about 15 years ago having told my then Ulpana principal that 3 lazy girls would NEVER pass 4 point bagrut (the old exam) in yud bet unless they seriously "buckled down" and started working. The parents got a letter saying this, and returned it signed. When at the start of yud bet they were getting grades in the 20s I composed a letter co-signed by the principal stating that unless the girls got private tutoring AND buckled down, they would fail the 4 point bagrut and the school would refuse to take responsibility for this occurrence. The parents signed the letters which were duly moved into the pupils' files. When bagrut grades were publicized the following year, sure enough the parents of one girl came to the ulpana looking for my scalp. The principal took out the two signed letters out of their daughter's file and that was that. Moral of story: ALWAYS put a note in pupils' files, even after a phone call to parents! (I give positive "way to go" phone calls as well as the "naughty" kind, and they too get filed!)
