I hope everyone has had some time to rest and recharge batteries before
going back to school!
It's time for annual updates:
1) You may notice on documents that we are no longer officially called just
plain "Shema", but rather the whopping long name " Shema"- Educational and
Therapeutic Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children and Youth".
However, this should make no difference whatsoever to all of you. I've been
working at "Shema" since I was 22 and (besides on official documents) as
far as I'm concerned I'm a SHEMA counselor.
2) I'm pleased to announce that we have expanded our services. Not only do
we have our awesome Northern Star, Francine Widerker, we now have a
Southern Rose joining our forces, Irit Leron.

3) I would like to remind everyone, once again, that if you have a deaf or
hard of hearing student in your high-school class, you MUST check with a
counselor regarding the accomodations for the "Bagrut" exams for each
individual student. Even if you have taught our students in the past, or
have a number of children with a hearing loss in the same school, the
accomodations are NOT the same for all. They are determined according to
the severity of the students' hearing loss.
4) Our counseling services are available to teachers of all ages - no need
to wait for the "Bagrut" exams to ask for counseling!
