Subject: Re: degree recognition horror stories

When I came here over 30 years ago I went to the Ministry with my
certification. BA Hons from London.TEFAL from Cambridge (CELTA) as
well as teaching certification from International House London.
I was told yipee and English teacher we would be delighted to have you!!
Only when I stupidly...honestly told them I was pregnant did the
nightmare start. I was told I had no rights and to come back in 9
months.....
You know the old joke of how to make a small fortune here is to bring
a large one...
Well I had neither. So I started on my own. I successfully built a
private Language school which still runs today.
In retrospect, I would still rather be in the system than out of it,
but the obstacles I faced were insurmountable. And YES new immigrant
teachers should be made aware of the job opportunities and
difficulties we face here unless you have the honored Israeli
certification.
I can teach ANYWHERE in the world with my degrees except in my homeland!!!!
The system lost out on an eager, dedicated and excellent teacher. I
can say that as in 30 years no student has ever failed a 5point Bagrut
in my school.
I still feel bad that the so called powers that be made my working
life here so hard.
