You have to bring your American license, original college transcript, your
teudat zehut and copies of all these things to the Misrad Hahinuch. It
used to be the office on Devora HaNeviah street. They will issue you a
certificate recognizing the license but it DOESN'T give you an Israeli
license. To get an Israeli license, you must take a year long course in
pedagogy. In Jerusalem it is at the David Yellin College. You also have
to take 6 courses in Hebrew. They are Hebrew language, Tanach, Judaism,
Israeli history from the last 100 years or so, Israeli literature and
citizenship or a civics course. Your Hebrew should be at an ulpan daled
level or higher. After taking the courses, you must be observed by the
mifakachat of the area where you teach and then you have a form to submit
to a different ministry office along with another transcript and proof that
you have taken a specific psychology course and college level courses in
English.
