It only seems that every high school backpack comes equipped a dog-eared
copy of "Catcher in the Rye," J.D. Salinger's anthem to youthful torment.
Over 60 million copies are in print. Since its release in 1951, English
teachers have extolled the book - and assigned a mountain of term papers.
