Today, our staff administered the Grade 12 matkonnet using MP3s for students
with aural accomodations.
How did this come about? All of the discussions here on ETNI and parallel
discussions amongst our Staff brought us to the conclusion that we need to
address the fact that MP3s are the best next step. Our English Co-ordinator
appealed to our Principal and managed to convince her that such a purchase
would be prudent.
What was involved in converting cassette files?
First, we involved our school technical team. We used Audacity to convert our
cassette to MP3. Unfortunately, the quality of the file was poor, so we turned
to our Film Department. We were sent the converted MP3 files, downloaded them
and this morning set to work to transfer the files to the individual MP3s.

Who was involved?
Aside from the tech team of the school and the film teacher, once we had the
files, we divided tasks amongst ourselves.
We transferred files from computer to MP3, checked them, attached stickers and
packaged them for individual classes.

What about supervision of MP3s?
We prepared a sign-out form for students to sign along with their phone number.
Upon return of the MP3, the students checked off their own names.
Each teacher was responsible for distributing and collecting the MP3s after the
exam.

Comments?
The kids loved it. The teachers were pleased. No more sudden walkman disasters.
No more discmen that didn't work. No more! They were responsible for their own
earphones for hygienic reasons

Any questions, please ask. We weren't sure how it would work but today worked
fine.

Has anyone else given this a try?
P.S. The sound files are available if people need them. They'd have to be
posted on a private site.
