We have all just received notification about an online literature course. However, there are specific directives from the irgun NOT to co-operate with the ministry until all the disputed issues with regard to English are resolved. English teachers, stand together and we will achieve our goals. Enough of blindly accepting additional loads without compensation. Enough of being dictated to by the ministry. We implement the policies, therefore we should be full partners in the decision making. The literature course cannot be implemented without making adjustments to the English curriculum. It is impossible to teach literature, do projects, extensive reading plus general language teaching within the current framework. We simply don't have enough teaching hours to do all this, let alone receive extra pay for all the hours of marking involved. In addition, we are also expected to attend to LD students. I am one hundred percent in favor of including literature on the bagrut. I'm against the "how" and not the "what". I fully agree with Laurie that we should establish an English teachers' lobby within the Irgun. Only if we stand together firmly can we achieve our goals. It's important to follow the irgun's directives. Therefore, at this stage, we mustn't attend literature courses - online or not - until decisions have been made. Remember, united we stand, divided we fall.
