The Thanksgiving Write-Able asks: Imagine that you will enjoy the very
best Thanksgiving ever. What foods will be served? What things are you
thankful for?
The Thanksgiving graphic prompt is latest offering of a new
MakeBeliefsComix writing prompt feature called Digital Write-Ables which
allows users to use their keyboard and write stories directly on the screen
as they fill in the writing prompt. They then can print out their
writings. The purpose of these interactive Write-Ables is to get
youngsters writing and thinking in a quick and fun way. Their efforts to
complete the Write-Able can then become the first step in writing longer
essays or stories on the same subject. For example, if a student writes
that she is thankful for having a grandparent or other person in her life,
she can then be encouraged to write a short essay talking more about this
person.
The Write-Ables can also be used with students enrolled in literacy and
English-As-Second Language (ESL, ESOL) programs and provide an educational
resource for teaching language arts.
We hope you'll try it out with your students and give us feedback about
this new literacy feature, as well as suggestions for topics to be covered
in the future. Our goal is to keep adding new Write-Ables on an ongoing
basis.
