All our 11th grade 5 point pupils took the literature exam. As a teacher I was quite thrilled with the whole process. For the FIRST time I experienced and saw a direct correlation between effort and grade among my students. This means that students with excellent English skills (often those native and near native speakers) who did NOT put a lot of effort in, did NOT do particularly well, however, those students whose language skills were mediocre but worked extremely hard throughout the year and who put time and effort into revising for the test - did well. Those students who failed (and we did have some) were either those students who had been advised and refused to take 4 point English ("wanna be" 5 pointers) or those who simply did not make any effort during the year. This is a blessing for us English teachers. For the FIRST time we didn't hear that age old phrase "lo tzarich lilmod bishvil habagrut b'anglit" (i.e. you don't have to study for the English bagrut) and for the FIRST time when we held a 3 hour marathon at school in order to help the kids revise during the pesach vacation, the classes were full of MOTIVATED students! I am confident that my students' language skills and vocabulary improved throughout the process. Just my opinion.
