No - I will NOT enter this discussion, however I needed to have the facts
straight:

1. Fact: Literature has been on the curriculum for as long as I have been in
teaching (almost 30 years)
2. Fact: Ever since literature was taken off of the written and then the
oral exam, MANY many MANY teachers did NOT teach literature! (IOW: they LIED
about their yearly grades, since literature was SUPPOSED to count for 30% of
the yearly grade)
3. Fact: Now that literature is one of the modules, schools can no longer
skip teaching it.
4. Fact: HOTS are skills that everyone needs and benefits from however
instead of complaining about the emphasis that is put on it, have a look at
the TOS of the exam AND the Log. That should help keep things in proportion.
5. Fact: Now that literature is taught and assessed as part of the bagrut, a
student who is excellent in English can no longer complain that they should
be finishing in the 10th or 11th grade because they have nothing to learn;
they can no longer NOT work or function in class, and pull great grades.
They MUST do the work. They MUST invest time and effort in their English
studies.

That's all I have to say - I am NOT getting into this discussion.
