Sorry - can't bite my tongue any longer:

1. Since WHEN does the teacher's union get to decide on national
curriculum?

2. EVEN if they took away the projects, I would NOT give them up! I do
NOT find them as being MORE work than the work in the textbooks; and both I
AND my students find the project more motivating, interesting and relevant
than the work in the textbooks! And the same holds true with the literature
program! Granted, it is an investment learning it and then preparing the
UPs, but once they are ready, they are THERE - I do not have to plan
lessons, or think about what I am dong for that period of time- it is ALL
planned ahead! I call that a wise investment of my time.

True: as a teacher I ALWAYS spent a lot of time planning my lessons - I
believe that is the only way to teach professionally and responsibly- with
GOOD planning. So the planning that I do for the literature AND the project
REALLY do not mean more of a workload for me. And as far as I can see, from
my work in the field, a BIG part of the problem with teachers who have
classroom management issues are because they do NOT invest enough thought
and planning in their lessons! I have been in the classroom for over 30
years, and I STILL write lesson plans! The difference between when I was
just starting out, and now, is that the lesson plans I write NOW are more
realistic and accurate than those I wrote at the start of my career. But
they are STILL the foundation of my work!
